ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Born in 1937

Heinie Hartwig's journey from concrete pouring to becoming a renowned painter is truly inspiring. Hartwig began painting in 1970 working on his art in the evenings after work and one year later he quit his job to fully pursue his deep passion for art. It's fascinating how his experiences, including his time in Europe with the Army and witnessing historical events like the construction of the Berlin Wall, influenced his artistic style.

Hartwig grew up in the Santa Clara Valley of Northern California.  and left for three years to spend time traveling through Europe with the Army. While in Germany he persuaded his wife, Eva, to leave East Germany to marry him.  Returning to Santa Clara, he worked pouring concrete, and spent a lot of time running marathons. In 1964 he held the record for long distance running in Northern California.

His self-taught approach, drawing inspiration from the "Old Masters," speaks volumes about his commitment to mastering his craft. The comparison of his work to the likes of Albert Bierstadt and John Constable is a testament to his skill in capturing the essence of romanticism and European aesthetics in his paintings.

Hartwig's versatility as an artist, spanning from western themes to landscapes and still lifes, showcases his ability to adapt his style to various subjects while maintaining his signature charm and romance. It's no wonder he earned a place in "Who's Who in American Art" by 1991. His contributions to the art world undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.
