Pete Tillack at Gallery 1870 for Art Around Napa!

Pete Tillack Art Show at Gallery 1870

Pete Tillack is a contemporary artist renowned for his emotionally charged and thought-provoking artwork. His pieces often explore themes of humanity, nature, and the interplay between the two.  In his artwork you may find a lion sitting on a sofa, a herd of bulls walking down Wall Street, A fox sitting on a wing backed chair in the woods, a pack of wolves in a cathedral, or an abandoned sofa sitting on the railroad tracks. Tillack's artistry is characterized by its profound exploration of the human experience, often delving into themes of introspection, connection, and the passage of time, capturing moments of raw emotion and inner reflection.

Pete Tillack's life Journey began in the coastal landscapes of Australia, where he, as an electrician turned avid surfer and traveler, discovered an insatiable passion for the waves of the world and along the way adapted his creativity to the canvas. What started as a brief European surfing adventure transformed into a decade-long global exploration that ultimately changed his entire life path.

At the heart of this odyssey lies Tillack's distinctive philosophy. Through his preferred medium of oil, he unveils deeply symbolic scenes that invite viewers to contemplate the essence of home, comfort, and the human experience. The recurring motif of the couch, representing a sanctuary to unwind, reflects his ongoing quest for metaphorical solace in the complexities of life.

Beyond the personal, Tillack's art engages with broader themes such as politics, current events, humanity, and psychology. In his allegorical narratives, he maintains a delicate balance, avoiding explicit political stances and instead offering reflections on the universal human experience that resonate across diverse beliefs and affiliations.

Gallery 1870 in downtown Napa proudly showcases the artwork of Pete Tillack who's unique symbolic work transcends mere visual representation, offering viewers a window into the soul of the artist himself.

Beyond the Brush - Artist Statement:

There are a lot of great artists out there, but it is the unique style of life that the Australian born Tillack has led prior to his art career that has influenced his narratives on society and help separate him from the herd.

After finishing an electrical apprenticeship and business school on his way to building a small company, at the age of 23, Tillack left his home in Australia to endeavor on, what was meant to be, a short European Surf trip.
A couple of months turned into ten or so years (the time frame became blurry) and ended with a life being built in California. Filling up multiple passports served as an index to the many experiences that helped change his life as he freely roamed the planet.

From the giant waves of Hawaii, to the longest waves in Peru, the mountains and glaciers of Alaska to the volcanoes of Reunion Island, and from the ancient hidden city of Machu Picchu to the center of the modern world - Times Square.
It seemed the chosen career as a sparky, fell further from the plans, as he started to reprogram himself with the many cultures and experiences encountered along the journey. The destination was finally changed after unexpectedly being introduced into the life of creation, which proved to be the key to the challenges that drive his passion for connection and a voice.
Being a self-taught artist allowed him to draw his own lines from the multiple sources and aspects, but it was the internal questions and relationship to society that gives the life to his work that people associate with.
Art - like music, is a language that connects us.

“As youth falls into the past, and the present becomes the form carved by my many unique experiences, my work casts stronger meanings, as I look deeper into the connections with our society. I feel lucky that along the journey, I found my talent, and it has allowed me to be able to transpose a blank canvas into a story that captures a viewer.”

"An ordinary man sees everything as a blessing or a curse.
A warrior sees everything as a challenge. "
